Gardens Alive (F-2)

Excursion Program Overview

Children will explore the fascinating world of plants and their seeds in this fun, hands-on program. This program is designed to help children understand plants, how they grow and their different parts and functions.

Activities include:

  • “Friends in the Garden” – a short play by our educators with student participation and costumes to introduce the topic.
  • Garden Hunt – students visit our vegetable and herb garden to explore the textures, smells and parts of these plants and hunt for any minibeasts making a home here.
  • Video Microscope Demonstration – Students observe their collected specimens using our video microscope hooked up to a TV. Plant parts and garden minibeasts are magnified to promote curiosity and discussion.
  • A rotation of activities including seed exploration, seed planting to take back to school and felt-board plant parts.
  • Worms Up Close – Students have a close up look at worms using hand lenses and discover how these creatures can help your garden grow!
