New schools join Multicultural School Gardening
Congratulations to the following schools who will reap the educational, social and environmental benefits of Multicultural School Gardening in Terms 3 and 4: Belle Vue Park Primary School, Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School, Moreland Primary School, Maroondah Secondary College, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ringwood,Hillsmeade Primary School, Westbreen Primary School, and Kingston Heath Primary School.
In this final round of the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and Early Childhood Development funded project, each school will receive: a fully VELS-linked enquiry-based curriculum unit; resource manual with gardening fact sheets; workbooks with step-by-step action planning instructions; participation in an introductory teacher workshop; three visits from their Gould League Facilitator to help design, plant and celebrate the garden; and free seedlings donated by Scotsburn Nurseries and discount eWood garden edging (made from 100% recycled polystyrene and related styrenic plastics) from Close the Loop.
Welcome also to Wallarano Primary School who wil lbe participating thanks to a second City of Greater Dandenong Community Support Grant. Dandenong Primary School, who also received funding through a City of Greater Dandenong Community Support Grant, will celebrate their new garden on September 2. These schools receive all of the project components listed previously as well as $500 funding for materials to help establish their garden, a visit from a Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) ‘Better Earth’ Team to help build the garden, and and ‘In Safe Hands’ workshop and manual from CVA.
